Helper Role

The role requires:

Pastoral care of all children particularly those who are in your small group.  Small groups will have 2 or 3 helpers and will do outward bound and other activities together. These other activities include arts and crafts, playing board games, and taking time to reflect on the day through diary time.

Helpers are required to encourage, support and lead by example – sometimes this means taking part in the activity (although that’s not a requirement) and sometimes it means sitting back and letting the young people take the lead.

The days are long, typically starting at 7.30am and ending not much short of midnight, but it is a great privilege to see the children grow in confidence and self esteem as they encounter and overcome challenges during the week.

Key characteristics required:

  • High levels of energy
  • Patience
  • a sense of humour
  • a team player who is willing to ‘muck in’
  • a flexible attitude
  • good communication
  • an ability to communicate with children

Commitment:

  • Must be prepared to have a DBS enhanced check done
  • Must attend an informal interview as part of safer recruitment process
  • Will have to do an online safeguarding training course (less than 2 hours)
  • Has to attend a training meeting for the camp team
  • Will need to be available from early on Monday to late on Friday of camp week
